About

I’m a self-taught artist who lives and works in Berkeley, CA. I was the academic kid not the artsy one, and ended up in law school. But no matter how much I ignored it or told myself I couldn’t possibly be an artist, the need to paint kept coming around to poke at me until I began developing a regular art practice in 2015. I work in watercolor, acrylic, and oils, and am experimenting with both abstract and representational styles.

I’m interested in the human desire to capture, reproduce, and share what we find meaningful—nature, places, people, moments in time—and the limits of reproduction to express true connection to a subject. While I feel a strong compulsion towards accurate representation, the results can leave me feeling detached. So I’ve been indulging a competing urge to smear paint around in big, juicy strokes without too much thinking just to see what emerges. I don’t know where this tension will ultimately lead, but I’m happy to be on the journey.
