Jen is a self-taught artist who lives and works in Berkeley, CA. A lawyer by training, but a creative at heart, Jen began to focus on developing a painting practice in 2015. She is currently working in watercolor, acrylic, and oils, and paints both abstractly and representationally.
Jen is interested in the human desire to capture, reproduce, and share that which we find meaningful – nature, places, moments in time. Through her art practice, she explores the tension she feels between that desire, and the limits of reproduction to express true connection to a subject, particularly given the fragility of memory and the increasing influence the shared images of others have on our experiences. She is also interested in art as storytelling, and the effects of nostalgia and magical thinking on the stories we tell ourselves in order to live.
